“Behind the Signs at Insignia Designs”: Kayla Moberg, Executive Assistant

Quote my Project!

Kayla is the daughter of Insignia Designs owners Todd and Carol Moberg. She grew up in Pleasanton, CA, and moved to Chandler, AZ four years ago to study Occupational Science and pursue her career in occupational therapy. Growing up, involvement in Rotary was a family activity and after her first experience volunteering at an Easter Seals dance, she knew that was the population she wanted to work with. Now, when not working for Insignia part-time, Kayla works as an Occupational Therapy Assistant with clients who have autism, down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other mental/physical disabilities.

Why join the family Business?

Kayla says working with her parents is fun and she is glad to help lighten the load. She enjoys offering the perspective of the younger generation and attracting the attention of and increasing the following of her fellow millennial/GenXers through social media outreach. “When I moved, I missed my family so having a connection and contributing is incredible. Through this business, I have heard and read testimonials and found out my parents are really cool. I’m super proud of them!”

Best Part of the Job?

Kayla loves learning, so she finds the learning curve at Insignia exciting. Whether it’s office procedures, professional communications, or the ins and outs of the website, these are skills that she is also applying to her regular job. More than that, she has discovered how her parents have built long term relationships with customers and care about them on a personal level.

It’s especially gratifying for her to see small “mom and pop” businesses flourish. “Our signs get you noticed and that’s how we grew. We had help and now we can give back to the community and support other small businesses.” She has a sense of pride when she drives down a road and sees a client business with one of their signs out front.

Where Can We Find You Off the Clock?

With her schedule, there isn’t a lot of down time, but when she has time to relax, you can find her swimming or at the bowling alley with friends and family.

How About a Fun Fact?

While most people take a traditional language in high school and college, Kayla took three years of sign language. She never thought she’d use it, but finds now she uses it frequently as an occupational therapist- in particular with a current young client who can’t communicate. For Kayla, it’s all about signs- whether using sign language with patients or working in her parents’ sign business.
