“Behind the Signs” at Insignia Designs: Carol Moberg

Quote my Project!

Insignia Designs is a family business that thrives on the personal and professional relationships. We’re going #behindthesigns to meet the team that brings your business #SignsofSuccess.

Let’s start the series with Co-Owner Carol Moberg, Vice President and head of HR.

Give us a Quick “Carol” Overview?

Carol is the other half of the Insignia Designs Leadership Team. She and Todd have been married over 25 years. Carol handles the administrative operations-side of the business, which includes regularly connecting with customers, where her warm smile, friendly demeanor and background in social work come in handy.

Why the Sign Business?

When Todd brought her the idea of teaming up to start a sign company, she was excited but hesitant. “Sure, it was a big life change,” she says. “But a welcome change, and the changes all made sense. He wanted something local where he would travel less, we could work together, and he would have more time to hang out with our two children.” Though Todd’s background was in corporate sales and finance, he also has a creative side and after doing their research, Todd’s excitement really sold her on it.

Best Part of the Job?

Running the business requires a lot of detail work, forms, back and forth confirmations, coordination with contractors, government agencies and clients, and – of course – billing. But there is a fun part for Carol. “It’s the installation- going out and meeting with customers, conducting site surveys, and watching our signs put in place. Todd’s eye for creative design continues to amaze me and I love the opportunities to see it through to installation. Otherwise, I’m in the office with my two computers.”

Where Can We Find You Off the Clock?

When not out on installs or staring at screens, you can find Carol behind a book. “I love to read – anything and everything. I grew up spending summers reading by a river and it’s still my great escape.”

How About a Fun Fact?

Carol’s first car didn’t need a wrap. In fact, it may have inspired the idea for car wraps altogether. “It was an adorable black #Volkswagon Bug with red pin striping and red velvet interior. It was SO cool,” she recalls. Carol reluctantly retired it when she graduated with her MS in Social Work- it wasn’t professional enough for her work in homecare.

But her next car wasn’t all business. “I agreed to get a #Toyota Corolla as my first “real” adult car. My parents said I could get white or red. I chose red with a spoiler.” The determining factor? “One of my clients was this sweet older lady who said I had all the time in the world to own a white car and I should go for the red!”
